OK, my FX5 arrived yesterday lunch time so i turned the work mobile off and had an early day to fit it.

First off, as i have read on another thread, the box is HUGE!!

Once i got it home i took it out of the box, now i thought with my tank stand with two huge doors room was not an issue....... lets just say shimmying it in it just fits, getting it out for maintenance may be a different story!:nilly:

I did a quick dry fit of the hoses and cut them so size, plenty of house for my 90Gal but on a taller tank you may struggle to get the intake and outlet at different end of the tank.

I then filled up the media baskets with the little media i had! :irked: One thing is, any smallish media will need a bag as the holes in the baskets are quite large!

Fitting the hoses to the tank was another issue i had, on my sun sun i have a big lip around the top of the tank, the clip on attachment would not work at all, after some hacksaw action the clips now do the job :naughty:

The last issue i had was the filling of the filter, a nice little pump to get the siphon going would be nice, all be it you only need it once as the lines should be primed after the initial fitting.

All in all a great filter so far, probably took a bit longer to fit than the recommended 45 - 1 hour but i also had to cut out my overhead filter (STUPID SUN SUN DESIGN!!) and still have to dremil out the back of the cover to fit the MONSTER hoses properly. all the crap from in the overhead filter also dropped into the tank and the fluval had all this cleaned in 1 HOUR!!!

One other thing is the aggression has increased in both the Fire-mouths (I think trying to breed???) toward everything in the tank and now my Oscars again!:screwy: Could this be because of the extra current???

Ok, a little pissed and have had my first issue with my filter and down one 6"jewel! ;(

Well i have been away on a buisness trip for two days and arrived home to my girlfried with a worried look. The filter pickup had split in half by itself and one of my Jewels had been sucked up!! ;(

Not sure if one of the bigger fish had knocked it apart but NOT HAPPY to say the least!

hey brother sorry to hear for your loss..I run two black elatis bands around my intake to keep it tight...seems to work well.

GL!

I have two tanks to set up with FX5's...A 6 foot long tank and an 8 foot long tank. Because I have to run my own pvc pipe lines to get the end to end flow I want I'm planning on replacing the factory outlets along with the intake tube with better built ones. The only hose on either system will be short ones from the filters to the pipes.

I will be doing some kind of mod on the intake to secure it, just need to think of the best way

When I got my FX5, I too thought the box was huge. Then I got a 2080.....

i have my fx5 coming hopefully tommorow,,,,,now iam worried.....not new to the art of filters sucking up fish as my end on my 403 fell of once and a fish got sucked up...happened three times....not prob now.....hope these filters are good......

does the fx5 have a self priming feature?

well I have had no problems with my intake on the FX5.

as for the priming, when it first set it up you are suppost to fill it up with a jug then put the lid on, and then the vacuum of pumping that water out will start the prime, and after maintenance you will just need to open the valves and it will fill its self.

there is no need to prime just make sure it has some water in it and turn it on, i cant remember how much but it advises the amount in the instructions.
