the FX5 is about 20" tall including the valves and about 16" wide...
the fx5 is wider then the pro3 the pro 3 is 23" tall and 13" wides i guess ill do a diy project making a taller dresser with bigger doors oh and congrats on getting you a fx5 i hear alot of good things about them...

well if there is no clogs then the pump has probly been damaged...

Check the hoses for kinks and then shut the unit down for at least an hour. The motor on the FX5 is computer controled to match flow rates. it may very well be responding to the clogged intake by running at a lower rate.

I will leave it shut off for an hour or so tonight, i want to check the intake tube anyway, doubt it will be blocked but just have one of those feelings! LOL

To me the pump itself is working, like you say wolf i think it may be the chip selfguarding the unit, good idea!

Thanks,
Brett

Fitting the hoses to the tank was another issue i had, on my sun sun i have a big lip around the top of the tank, the clip on attachment would not work at all, after some hacksaw action the clips now do the job :naughty:

I had the same problem with my DAS tank. My husband and I tried everything(except a hacksaw). The last thing we tried was to lube them up with petrolium jelly and slide them on, but they snapped. I called the service # and they said that's the only size they make. Trying to set up the filter without them was a pain in the a**! The hoses slide everywhere. My husband says we should duct tape them but I think that would look tacky. But, whatever works I guess.

BTW, to answer someones earlier question, it is two gallons poured into the filter to start it.

nope ceramic rings in top tray.
as for the other 2 trays dont bother with sponge it already has loads of sponge and get some proper media for the other 2 trays.
i dont use filter floss either as it clogs to easily and need changing constantly and if you want to polish the water just use an internal with it in.
fill the trays with bio media and as much as possible.
try and get this its realy cheap but very good.

thanks for the help mate:headbang2

soz i think i hyjacked you thread.......ok when my fluval 403 blocked with a fish getting such in pipe i discovered all its insides got cught on a pipe bend and blocked filter from working....lucky for me i angled filter at a 45degree angle and twiddled the pipe and it freed...took ages to discover the problem...tracing the pipe back it was in the worst possible place....hope it works out for you:popcorn:

slightly off topic but we are connister people here so...
The FX5 has a lower port designed to backflush the filter and extend the time between servacings....however eventually they all need cleaned out. Every time you do that you get a ton of mulm and crud out of the hoses when you start the cannister back up. My wife came up with a great idea to prevent all of this junk from getting into the tank. Tie a medium sized media bag over the outlet tube before turning on the filter and you'll catch 90% of the debris.

Ok, I found the problem and it had nothing to do with the filter.

I t has only been setup for a little under 2 weeks, when i set it up I failed to mention I used some fine pad i had to line one of the baskets for the substrate pro as it was too fine and i needed to get some media bags. Well i had bought the media bags and thought while i was trying to find the problem with my flow i would put the media in them and take out the pad. Well the pad was blocked, not just a little but the water would just sit in it when you puuled that basket out!! so i tossed that and now all is good. I still can't beleive how quick it blocked the fine pad though!!

Thanks for all the help,
Brett
