FX5 is setup and a breif report......

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
what filter media would you advise?
i was thinking those hexagonal ceramic things....sponges and filterfloss in the top?and the sponges it comes with

i use ceramic rings along with eheim substrat pro and kaldness k1 media and only the original sponges, i pack as full as possible with bio.
i have 1 set up like this and 2 set up without the ceramic rings.

thanks mate.....so keep origanal sponges
ceramic in bottom siv
sponge in second
filterfloss<loads in top one

ya I just use the original foam then I run the pre-filter ceramic things in the top tray and then bio-max in the bottom 2 trays and my tank is crystal clear.

Ok, another little problem (I hope!) last night when i got home i noticed i didn't have much current in the tank, sure enough i have lost flow from the filter, if i restrict the out take it builds up pressure and when i also replug it in i get about half a second of good flow. it has happened after the fish got stuck in the intake, What could this be? i have stripped it down and there is nothing in the impeller....

well if you run any filter pads in the filter other then the stock foam they may be clogged. Or since the filter got plugged by the fish for 2 day before anyone did anything could of damaged the filter...

how big is the fx5? how tall and how wide is it? i just bought a eheim pro 3 got a deal on it but it dont fit under the dresser i don't want to take it back but i have 2 choice if the fx5 is a little bit shorter and not as wide ill take the pro 3 back and get the fx5...or i can build a new taller dresser what do you guys think...

the FX5 is about 20" tall including the valves and about 16" wide...

nope ceramic rings in top tray.
as for the other 2 trays dont bother with sponge it already has loads of sponge and get some proper media for the other 2 trays.
i dont use filter floss either as it clogs to easily and need changing constantly and if you want to polish the water just use an internal with it in.
fill the trays with bio media and as much as possible.
try and get this its realy cheap but very good.
