Fx6 problems

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I'll play then. I had eheim leak but they are often very easy to repair. the older models not so much as the O rings are tough to find but the newer versions are very simple. I prefer eheim over fluval just due to the bio media volume and their ease in cleaning. I like how they look as well, they catch the eye, I have no worries about keeping an open stand if there is a set of eheim underneath but I won't show fluvals as they just look like a 5 gallon bucket with a pump

Fx's will get air inside but when the shut off twice a day it should purge it out.. Mine do this and there isn't a lot of air. Did you ever find a water leak? It should be leaking water where the air is coming in I'd assume. Only problem i ever had was a impeller got alittle louder. So 1 fx out of 3 but also going on 7years old about.

eheim - bought 2 units the 2028 and the 2075 both were suppose to leak. I got them both for 20$. neither of them leaked a drop they were perfect condition. I guess the lids were not sitting correctly so I ended with 2 eheim in perfect condition that were suppose to leak

I know the feeling. I bought 9 canisters from a local fish store. All were said to be missing parts and badly damaged. Got all 9 for $100. 5 of them worked flawlessly after some normal maintenence. I think the best part is the 6 or 7 gallons of media I got as they were all full still lol

Yet another misinformation about Eheim being fail proof. Should I dig up a recent thread about a leaking Eheim ?

I never said fail proof. Everything can fail. I said, very plainly, that the newer, "improved" models are the ones with problems, later in this thread. If you get a cannister with the pump on top you will have fewer problems. If your pump needs to shut off daily to burp the air, you have an inferior design. There is nothing to go wrong with an Eheim classic that is difficult to diagnose and repair. One of the biggest problems with an Eheim classic is lack of parts because you don't need any!

I own 2 Odyssea canisters which has the pumps on the bottom design. They do not shut down to purge air, just keeps running continuously. These have become my favorite canister filters.....and super inexpensive to boot :)

The bottom pump filters are much easier to prime than top pump design.
You can buy two fx6's for the price of one 2262 and parts are easier to get. Both filters have their ups and downs it just depends on what you want and budget

It doesn't get much simpler than installing a classic Eheim dry and sucking on the return hose of a quick second. Once the canister fills up, plug it in and the residual air works its way to the top naturally.

I know Manny is running this filter on a sand bottom pleco tank, so I'm sure his next thread will be about a damaged impeller :nilly:
