Fx6 problems

I have had both 2262 and fx both are great filters never had problems with the fx but the 2262 holds allot more bio, is easier to clean and moves much more water. I actually have to shut it off during feeding. The fx didnt move nearly the same amount of water

I want a 2262 but I cant help but feel like it's a $400 bucket with an eheim hobby pump slapped on it.

I'm sort of stealing the idea and making a canister out of 6" pvc. Real simple. Filters from the bottom up and pumps on the top

The main issue with diy canisters is sealing the thing water tight, so why not use a giant union?

2x 3/4" bulkheads - $10
2x 6" pvc end caps - $20
1x 6" pvc union - $20
2ft 6" pvc - $10
Assorted unions/ballvalves - $40
Magdrive 7 - $60

Total cost around $160. Still doesn't compare to 2262 specs. But that's cheap for a large, robust, leak free 700gph canister

I just finished another tank build 2 weeks ago so I need a little time for my finances to recover (and my wife lol) before I start another project, keep your eyes open

It doesn't get much simpler than installing a classic Eheim dry and sucking on the return hose of a quick second. Once the canister fills up, plug it in and the residual air works its way to the top naturally.

I know Manny is running this filter on a sand bottom pleco tank, so I'm sure his next thread will be about a damaged impeller :nilly:

Actually, it does get simpler. Simply take a shop vac to fill it. I put the big ol filter in place empty and fill it that way.

Regardless of which you use, I always have two or more filters on all my tanks so that if there is a failure with one and I'm not around the fish will survive- redundancy. Plus you can stagger cleanings

Agree 100%

I used to keep a single eheim classic on my planted tank. It quit working and I lost some stock. The filter was maybe 2 or 3 years old I don't even remember anymore. For the price of that eheim I replaced it with 2 sunsun filters. It's nice not worrying about one being taken out of service. I clean one every 2 weeks to avoid killing off my bio media.

MB, have you ever cut power to one of your sunsuns while the hoses were still in the water? Mine, unplugged, still keep one hell of a great siphon going lol, I wouldn't ever worry about losing power with those filters.
