THIS. If your luucky enough to find it, this is BY FAR the best sand I have ever used. It is heaver and smoother then PFS and has better grain so it looks far more natural IMO. It's a little spendy but everyone always spends so much on thier fish/filtration/setup then cheaps out on substrate :screwy: (plant guys excluded). I have in the past too and learned my lesson. I slowly have converted over to this stuff in all my tanks.

The bag. This is $0.50 / lb. not too bad. You can fill a deep sand bed 3" or so in 8'x2' tank for $100.

In tank shot. Disclaimer: this photo is my sand, fish and tank but the pic was taken by Modest_Man, not me.

nice fish! does the black spot have anything to do with gender/happiness/etc.?

No sir. The mid lateral spot is so large because this species is geophagus abalios. They are isomorphic so there are not many ways, if any to tell the difference visually.

I don't know where you are but I would recommend you track it down. You won't be disapointed I promise. ;) I miss the A. Heckelii too bud. One day I might decide to keep them again. For now I am happy with the fish I have.

Here is the female brooding. Took two vids real quick for you guys. I redid the lights to provide some shaded areas. You guys like it better?

This video shows the tank/mates better. The brooding female does not come out from the dark area of the tank until around second: 39.

Thanks so much Dave, I am recovering rather quick. There are multiple types of stroke and mine was not life sytle related, it was an injury (VAD) so people tend to bouce back to 100% or close to it sooner than others.

The abalios sure look good as a school huh?? I've waited so long I am excited to finally have a proper group!! Just as exciting they came from fellow members and friends. :grinno:

It actually took me a couple hours to track the sand down. I found that they produce it in Nor Cal and I live in socal. luckily there was a place an hour a way from me and I picked up 200lbs for $21 bucks!! It is beautiful sand and I will NOT do anything else now. Thanks Justin! :)

Right on! Glad your happy, I knew you would be. Now we just need a few other members to try it and hopfully everyone will stop pushing PFS on new members so much and try something better. :D You like the lighting better in the second vid?
