in my opinion, why would you buy cichlids if you dont like them to fight???? dont get me wrong, i wouldnt let one of my fish kill another one. but calling someone a retard because the agressive fish he/she owns act aggressively is way out of line. thats like saying i cant believe pbass owners allow their fish to eat other fish, its in their nature. people need to stop trying to domesticate their pets into behaviors they think are acceptible.

as to intervening into cichlid fights, if you truly felt that way, you would stay up all night and make sure no one gets into a scuffle. people set fish fights up all the time. put more than one aggressive cichlid in a tank and you will have a fight. what people call brutality is what nature calls instinct.

I'm with you on this one. I have quite a few aggressive fish in my 300 but there are also plenty of dithers, hiding spots, and room to get away. I have had most of the fish for a few years, some only since February or so. I have only seen one spell of lip locking in the tank since I set it up.
As for the overly aggressive fish, my dovii has a 210 to it's self and I have a solo female red devil in a 55 gallon.
When I chose to keep these fish and to take their lives in my hands I took on the responsibility of giving them a safe / long life. I take that responsibility serious and do my best to keep them happy (as happy as possible in a glass box anyway).
i wasnt saying that we buy cichlids so they can fight but everybody freaks out when someone posts a video of an agressive fish being aggressive. as to staying up all night, i was implying that if you truly cared for the fish to not fight you would stay up, but you dont. yes fish rest at night, but are you telling me that they never fight at night? as to the previous point, your calling someone a retard (which i think is a wrong term to describe anyone in a negative way, i guess you have never spent much time with the mentally challenged) because they posted this video. you have the right to be disgusted by the video but dont call someone a retard.

cichlas now just looking for excuses...oo the wording is wrong. He is a retard. Im with low-cel, I did not watch the second half because I have no need to see a rd get ripped up by a fish twice its size. Just dumb to me. I too have fish in solo tanks for this reason...they are too aggressive for other tanks I have that are not huge, but I took them in and to me they are not toys to record and watch fight. Always a different view on it for fish...ya man dogs fight in nature too...granted way back in the day, etc, but do we all say dog fighting is ok? To me a pet is a pet
poor fish i had to stop my parrots fighting over the eggs they had laid in the tank all it took was some food to stop them fighting
