dang exagerate much cichlids and gars even aro and catfish can all live together in hormony as long as they have the space and are all feed acording to they natural habits.
what exactly qualifys as "the space"? also, what evidence do you have that suggests other people are "exaggerating" when they say that cichlids and gars don't make good tankmates? one, two or even ten successful attempts at the combo is not sufficient to disprove the countless other instances in which the combo has failed.
its true you might need to provide extra feeders for them if your cichlids are hungry and snatching all feeders befor your gar gets to them but if you have a balenced diet of pallet, frozen, and live. then plump the cichlids with pallet/frozen befor throwing in the live and your gar will get to the live food more often live food should be given in moderation anyway i would let him starve for a bit till he starts eating the pallet/frozen.
i assume this is what you meant by "fed according to their natural habits". firstly, how sure are you that the above description (which was not easy to comprehend - try using punctuation next time?) is in fact the natural feeding habits of cichlids & gars? just by introducing prepared items we already introduce learned feeding habits.
again, your post is very contradictory of itself. in the second paragraph, you suggest leaving feeders for the gars to pick up since the cichlids would eat the majority of the prepared food before the gars can get to it. however, later on you say "live food should be given in moderation anyway i would let him starve for a bit till he starts eating the pallet/frozen", and "remember introducing anything living into your tank can result in infections or illnesse so unless you trust your source %100 i would only feed pallet/frozen"
