Gar and Cichlid in 275?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
It is very rarely an issue like the post above where the gar is the assailant.

Gars have no method of defending themselves aside from running away. Even slight aggression towards them can lead to stress and snout/spine injury or a jump from the tank. Cichlids are known aggressors, especially after claiming part of a tank as their own.

It works for some people but for many it does not. If anyone values their gar I would suggest being very careful about choosing cichlid tankmates.

exactly. john found a bunch of melanistic gar that had no eyes because cichla(IN THE WILD, where there is more room for them to run) had eatten thier eyes

I don't personally recommend the situation for most people. I have always mixed weird combos of fish and have gotten pretty good at it. It takes planning cause you can't just throw fish in together. For example with the oscars and gars. I had the gars first then introduce the oscars. I had 4 oscars and 2 gars and 2 sevs. I kept them well fed (sometimes)! I've kept african cichlids with spiny eels and mollies and tiger barbs with no problem. You just have to take into consideration of whose aggressive and try to take away the advantage from them. You have to plan, watch, and be ready to step in if sh*t hits the fan! You take size, number, what you feed (live or prep), size of tank, decor, ect., ect., all this is taken in consideration in planning! I worked in a pet shop for 13 years so I wouldn't recommend it on a professional level! But in the end it has been done and is POSSIBLE!

Hello everyone. I have one A.spatula. I plan to put it in his 1,200-liter tank. Cichlids in the tank are: 3 types Parachromis (managuensis, motaguensis, dovii), Cichlasoma Salvini.

According to what I read in this topic is a bad idea. What is your opinion?

yes ur right. it is a bad idea

Why can not they be together?

For the A.spatula killed my cichlids?

or

My cichlids would be killed as much A.spatula?

Thank you for your reply.
