yup, that's pretty much it. primarily food, secondarily re-stocking wild populations (although much less a factor than the primary goal), and to a lesser extent ornamental fish trade. either way they are good for relieving stress off wild populations. environmental impacts seem to be moderate as well--

anyone know where one goes to get alligator gars in CA? i'm looking for local pickup if possible.
 
so there is no way to legally obtain a specimen?

I eat lots of Talapia very tasty fish. I buy it at supermarket but have heard it can be caught here in local lakes though have never caught anything but channel cats when I try non lure type fishing
 
talapia is good but i never had gar. anyone know where to get gar fillets? or is that illegal in CA too...lol
