Gar Quiz - version 3.0 - ID the fish!

Lets see it's not a longnose. Not a cuban. Not an alligator. So that leaves florida, spotted, shortnose and tropical. From there the pectoral fins look longer than the typical florida. Given that true spotteds are not readily available and the longer fins I will rule out spotted. It's hard to guess size from the picture but the styrofoam box in the background makes me think that the gar is smaller, in which case I would expect some remnants of the trident pattern if it were a tropical. Which makes me say shortnose for the ID.


As for the last quiz, a little bit of knowledge about your stock helped ID the fish Alex.
 
yeah, that has been the condition with a few CBGs i've had come through this season...so far doesn't seem to be causing any problems with the fish, and one of the individuals is already about 13-14" long. best of luck with the fish, they are eating machines!--

Great to hear. Glad Alex got this guy on pellets too, I'll need him to teach my Trops.
