I finally got some footage of my Florida Gar having one of his daily seizures. It has one 24/7, some days more. What causes it? If startled, it suddenly goes mental, turns upside down, and starts twitching. After about a minute, it turns over and starts swimming as though nothing ever happened. Any ideas?

Draw your own conclusions.

Fish have seizures following trauma just like humans. Perhaps the fish is dehydrated. Have you tried giving it water?
Hehe...no really...I googled fish seizure and there are tons of hits. Seems to be a fairly common occurrence. On the other had, I had 2 demasoni that would vibrate their body to appear more threatening, although I doubt that is what your fish is doing.

Have u watched the video mate?

Yea, it's a pretty to see such occurences, particularly in gars. It's my first time seeing such an occurence - a gar flipping upside down, turns back and swims away normal and occuring on a daily basis. Now, that's what I call RANDOM.

lol my Oscar vibrates his tail when he is threatened, and i have some weird cichlid thing that goes nuts sometimes and rubs against things :D Its a healthy with though no disease.

Epileptic fish?

Why don't you PM Solomon (e_americanus) and ask him to view the video. To me it looks like some spinal issue which is not good at all.

damn thats sad to see - im no expert on gar but if it turns upside down maybe a swimbladder problem?
