Yeah, thanks.

Has this ever occured to any other Gar keeper?

Reminds me of fainting goats... neurological

Fainting goats do not have a neurological problem. When startled or frightened there legs with stiffen up. They do not actually faint, they just fall and can't move.

Not repeatedly but yes it has happened in cases where toxins that affect the gars nervous system is an issue... Repeatedly occurring.... I'd think this may be just an individual fishes issue. I have this noted as something that can arise in these fish from other sources, but I still have not seen it so much myself in the fish I have worked with.

Given that the fish may likely be an aquacultured fish there is a possibility for a genetic issue with it. Normally however such things are a clear indication of water quality issues from ammonia or nitrites or contamination from Clorimines (Spelling may be off) or of pesticide residuals in the tanks waters.

It jumped and hit the top lid of your tank, your tank is way too small for him.

Maybe, don't think so though.

Not many people have.

As others have stated, its seems to be neurological, this could be genetic. I would separate the fish to live out its days. Just care for it and hope for the best. With this condition let alone any living being, it could cut its life short, but your best bet is to give it its own home and care for it your best.
