I am thinking, a 1500w water tank heating element is 30 bucks for a good one. Those last SEVERAL years with an insulated tank. So I should easily get 1-3years from a single element. Just have to figure out a thermostat

where do you buy these for 30 bucks i have never seen them.

Easy fix. Go to amazon and look up Ranco temp controller. $55 and works great.

If you fully insulate all around the pond it will help a ton keeping it covered with the insulation will also provide many benefits for you. You will keep in moister better as well as the heat. with the fish you are looking at wanting in there have you thought about going to a 36" wide pond. 30" is big but with the potential size of your monsters 36 would be better. where are you thinking of placing the heater. The 55 drum would be a decent place if you can make it work. fish cant be burnt and the water flow will help spread the heat. something else to look at would be an inline hot tub heater.

yea the heater will be in the drum right up top. I plan on making a PVC couple so I can just unscrew the heating element when it needs replaced.

Yes I intend on using a pond liner. Especially since it will only cost me 150 bucks

I would sacrifice some length for width especially since you have a tsn.

Also if you insulate it well you could probably heat it with around 300watts.

I work in a pond shop in uk we have profi heater what takes it up to over 100f it has thermostat built in. 1, 2, 3 kw

That looks awesome but at over 300 bucks for the 1kw I think I can build something and save myself some money. Thank you for the information though!
