Honestly with cichlids it’s a hit or miss. 2 females can work but you’d need to have a lot of cover and structure to establish territories between them.

Ok this is great news then I literally have that and more hopefully tomorrow my Snook will curve some aggression as I understand males had round tail fins I guess somehow I didn’t think to pick one different from mine and even though they both have a lot of blue I hope I have a month or 2 before knowing for sure which at that point if I know I have 2 males I will surrender 1 if I have 2 females and it’s working I will probably try to keep it that way!! Hopefully ? I get a pair I’m doing this all wrong hopefully I can convince him and maybe just take the one back!!!!

Males eventually will get the pointed fins, but most differences take a while to show.
Sometimes you get lucky with a pair this way, though forced pairs can go south.
If you have an outlet to return the small one that’s definitely the safest bet.

Well it went south so I traded it for one with different fins clear blue one the jawline and things are much better!!! In fact these 2 are practically in separatelable!!! It’s so beautiful ? seeing them swimming around the tank together!!!
