ive kept exCichlasoma Pearsei in my bedroom tank since it was 2'' with vieja argentea's, firemouth cichlids and clown loach and ive found them to be the most peaceful cichlids ive ever owned. .very timid and 'Gourami' like in behaviour. its now living in my hall way tank with stingrays and a female Vieja Argentea.

such a gorgeous fish vince. so many big fish out there. im so glad, i decided to take a break from dwarf cichlids. i think im going to go with choclate cichlids for my tank.

On the subject of dithers -- I have silver dollars in my 75g, which are great and (I hope) not going to out-grow the space. I find that they are pretty sensitive to aggressive tank mates, but are great with peaceful ones.

I've also used rainbow-fish as dithers/targets -- they also seem to work pretty well.

ive thought of silver dollars, but i have some plants in my tank that i dont want munched on. lol. i would love to keep them in a larger tank at some point in a riverbed style setup at some point.

i think im going too. im pretty sure my pet store has a tank full of juvies. so im going to go and see how theyre doing.

well just getting back from the fish store. there are no chocolate cichlids this time around, im sure he will be getting more in. but upon my search around the store, ive noticed these fish in one tank. they were about 8in. long and i never payed attention to them till today and realized that they are the cichlasoma nicaraguense. has anyone have any experience with these? they are also on my list to keep. :P

Go for mabye an oscar or Jaguar cichlid and just dont feed it as much as it can eat

a Jag is the last fish I'd recommend to someone wanting a "gentle giant". ;) And what would not feeding it as much as it can eat have anything to do with aggression level?

Anyway, I've heard both as far as nicaraguense go, that they can be aggressive but I've also heard they can be relatively peaceful. I tend to read more that they're more on the peaceful side than aggressive but ultimately it will come down to the individual fish.
