Geophagus altifrons

Did you get your Alts from a lfs or from online vendor. Been looking for some haven't found any yet.

Poopsmart I know you are from the same area as me, have you seen any around locally?
 
I get all my Alti's from LFS vendors selling "Surinamensis".

I wouldnt specially order alti's from a lfs tho, because the only time i did, i got a shipment of 5 Rio Caroni Guianacara's.

I just make my weekly visits to the LFS and scoop up all the Surinamensis they have. I was lucky one time, because the Geo turned out to be a Dikrozoster, much more attractive than my Alti's are IMO.

I did Order Geophagus Tapajos Red Heads offline, I might say they have amazing colors now! Biggest one is about 4 inches.

I found some "surinamensis" for sale at my LFS i got the Dikro at the other day. They are really small, and they want 7.50$. I dunno if i should get em or not.

Heres some better pics of the dikro(3 months old). hes about 7 Inch now.

I picked up a surinamensis they other day or it was listed as one . I'll try to get a pic and post it. Maybe you can tell which it is. I am not that good with IDing them.
 
Here is a couple of quick pics, a little blurry but you get the jist. Little bugger would not hold still. It is about 2". Color is much better in person, green pearling on flanks and red in fins. It actually looks a lot like the second pic you posted.

That would be sweet if u ended up with a Dikro, they dont get as large as Alti's can, and They grow very fast! atleast mine did. The true ways to tell if its a dikro are...

1) If the fish has black bars on its cheeks
2) if the 4th vertical bar on the body is not a stripe its a Y.(Attached pic shows the vertical bars clearly)(OTher pic is just when dikro was little)

When geo's are around 2 inch they look so similar. THey should grow fast, just make sure the belly is always fat and full, and he'll grow so fast!

algae wafers(i dunno why but they steal em from plecos)
Bloodworms
Crawlers
earthworms
Brine shrimp
pellets ALL KINDS
raw Fish flesh

You def. won't be able to sex them at that size. Just keep on feeding and they'll be sexable soon.

JUST WAIT!!! When the alpha male shows his true colors! OK, gotta find my USB for my camera..... got some great pics the other day of my 7" male!

I'll find some of my Altifrons 'Manaus' and my late surinamensis I just traded back in to my LFS along w/ my 17" poly ornate. Won't post pics of the poly just mourning a little had him since 3".
