Geophagus PICTURES ANYBODY & EVERYBODY

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Trust me, your fish is very much a satanoperca ;) There is no such thing as a Geophagus jurupari, as well. You can tell the difference (least, in my opinion) mainly in the face. Satanoperca have a much longer 'nose' and snout than Geophagus, which have 'stockier' faces to me.

Thanks! I trust ya..

Well, some pics I've found of the Satanoperca jurupari don't look like mine (look more like the Geophagus), but some indeed look like mine.

Thanks for the info.

David
Actually, why don't you look up Satanoperca leucosticta. I think most Satanoperca come in labeled as jurupari or daemon. Jurupari doesn't sport the spangling/pearling on the gill plates your fish has.

Here are a few Geophagus and Satanoperca my friend and I have kept. He has most of them now.

Wow, it's a tough call between the Satanoperca leucosticta and the Satanoperca jurupari...they are so similar.

beautiful..almost bought one yesterday ..it was about 4 inches and they wanted $20 for it.. i would have but did not have a tank ready for it.. will pick up some smaller ones in the future..first like to learn somemore about them.. but they are gorgeous,

Yes, reddevil, they really are cool. and $20 for the 4 inch one doesn't seem bad. They develop pretty quickly though if you are looking to get smaller ones. I really enjoy watching them pick up the gravel and spit it back out...it's a pretty continuous process and people that don't know fish will love watching him too. They are very docile and majestic when they fully color up, I give them a thumbs up all the way around.

Your jurupari is very nice, but he's not a Geophagus ;) They're Satanoperca jurupari, not Geo...just in case anyone is looking for information on them. Still eartheaters, but not geos :)

I currently have 4 very small baby G. altifron, 3 juvenile S. daemon, and 1 juvenile G. 'surinamensis.' (He's highly likely not actually, I'm thinking he's probably an altifron.)

Can i see some pics of those fish mentioned, i may have bought one of them today, the LFS asnt for sure on the species, and i dont trust the google pics 100%.
Thanks

Daemon, Heckelii, Dicrozoster, Altifrons
