Getting a 550 gallon tank next week...

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
That's not true at all... I had him with bass and rays he just chased them here and there never bit them.... He ain't violent

Sent from your wifes car!

So your saying how this dovii is at juvinile size will act the same once he reaches 15"+, and saying it chased bass and rays at a smaller size then saying hes not violent is a bit hypocritical. Dovii are late bloomers but once they hit a certain size they usually become cold blood killers and have a knack for wiping out tanks that got "along" from the start. Did i not see it munching on a 3" black belt?? The fact is that they may get along okay but once the dovii reaches a certain size and decides to go beserk no fish in that tank will stand a chance.

We'll see. I think he was just hungry. hahaha Most every fish in the tank can take care of themselves pretty well so far. The real test will be when the dovii gets more comfortable and shows the tilapia what's up. That stupid fish picks on everybody in the tank and chases them around, even the flowerhorns. Nobody has taken a chunk out of him yet luckily. Only time will tell, but I think it will work out.

New favorite fish, and that says a lot because I have a lot of cool fish! This Dovii is awesome. The gar hasn't eaten in over 2 months, and he is looking faded and super thin, so I gave in and got some feeders. Threw 5 in, the jag got one of them, gar got 2 (thank God), and the Dovii was super quick and nabbed another one. One left, and I wanted the gar to get it, which he did, but the Dovii attacked the gar until he gave it up. :) These fish are a blast to watch. At least the gar will live another month or two now. Still not even an attempt at eating pellets ever. Not even once did he seem interested.

Hmmm, somebody kicked the crap out of my 12 inch oscar last night. I wonder who that could have been? haha He is in my small quarantine tank and will be fine. I put some salt in there to help heal him. I also got some tilapia and cut it up and the dovii loves it. Most of the others don't, but maybe that will change.

Haha, I found the smaller Jack Dempsey being chewed up this morning in the Dovii's mouth. This dude is HONGRY! I think I am going to pull the remaining 3 synspilums out, the two smaller caquetia kraussis, and the one blue acara before they become breakfast too. Sneak attack tonight! Hopefully they don't sleep inside the driftwood branches like they usually do.

His aggression seems to be OK so far, (not sure who actually is responsible for the oscar attack) but I think I underestimated his hunger. This dude can eat. No pellets yet, but loves the feeders, tilapia bites, and frozen bloodworm chunks. I think if I keep up with his metabolism we should be fine.

Comet goldfish. I feed pellets every day to all the other fish in there, but he doesn't seem interested yet. They are probably too small compared to what he is eating lately, between fish and bloodworm chunks. Maybe he will come around to pellets.
