dont buy a gun. only bad people have guns. there is no reason for them to even exist.

Chris, calm down, recover your senses.

You are not a gun type. So what happens is, you will freeze, will not shoot anyone and chances are you will get shot.

I never cease to be amazed by the amount of people that are willing to so lightly discuss guns and their handling in a fish forum and give such responsibility ladden advice. You have, however, received some good advice in here, from a very select couple of people who arguably know about guns. The rest is BS.

A guy ( present or past ) with military experience, a police officer- someone who has actual knowledge of the workings of guns and their effective use, may use it on another person.

The rest is bull, imho. I hunt, there are other hunters in here, and that has no relationship whatsoever with actually firing a gun at someone. Story is, you will get shot, because you are not hardwired to shoot someone ( you even were anti-gun ).

I own ( besides my hunting rifles ) a Mossberg pump action and a 32 Magnum Revolver, which I tell to myself that I have for defense.

I am kiding myself.

People are saying that moving is so difficult. Maybe, but you need to ask yourself, is there really anything in your house worth dying for? killing for? Yes, its disturbingly easy to shoot someone, and chances are good they will die. If they dont die, they may kill you, or you go to jail, face law suits or other repurcussions. Do you have others in the house that may get caught in the crossfire?

7 years ago I put two rounds into a mans chest. It was perfectly justified and I was completely in the right. This was in combat. I did everything right and have no regrets. But id recognize him today if he walked past me on the street.
Go ahead, kill someone over a television set. See how well you sleep at night.

^lol ya. A 9mm handgun is a good one. Enough knockdown power, low chance of overpenitration, cheap gun and cheap ammo. smaller grip so anyone can hold/use it easily like wife or gf. Or a FN F57...it's wat I have and def the best handgun I've ever used

i dad gots a few 9MM and some glocks..and there easy like you said well glocks..there expensive but a 9MM would be a good choice and imo for saying FN F57 are awesome haha

id say check with your local laws first? but you could probably get a 9MM or even something like a .44 magnum/.44 desert eagle but those wouldnt be as good if your not used to guns..so i say go for the 9MM for a handgun good choice!!

this is so untrue. Im not even gonna get into it,(EDITED)

Chris, do what you want. Seems like alot of anti-gun people just want to jump in and give you advice of what not to do. If you move, having a gun is still benifical (god i cant spell). So in reality get a gun anyway. Aint gonna hurt anything.
Plus if you dont want to kill anyone, and you get a 12ga pump, you can go with these

^Exactly, your almost never going to kill someone with a bean bag. I say that because I'm sure its possible, just not likely. With that you get all the intimidation of a gun with 95% less risk of fatally wounding or killing them.

Guns can be an amazing hobby to get into and when the stats are broken down your far more likely to get injured on your drive to the range than by a gun itself. If you take the time to learn the proper procedures and laws and take the neccessary procautions it can be a lifelong very enjoyable hobby.

It never ceases to amazed me how many people will point fingers at guns calling them deadly and evil, only to five minutes later step outside for a cigarette and knowingly slowly kill themselves.

In the end, take the time, get your knowledge on, and you'll end up enjoying a very fulfilling hobby that could POSSIBLY save your life some day.

The above is absolutely correct, imho.

But, in the case at hand, it is the starting point, the gun owning objective that matters.

You mention it as a hobby. And as a hobby, guns are great, and getting trained with them, improving your skills and accuraccy is great and rewarding.

The OP, however, meant guns as a self defense mean, because he is afraid of something. That is, imo, the worst starting point for gun ownership.

He will only hurt himself.
