what is shedding scutes..
See how their shell and plastron (underside) is comprised of plate-like sections? When they grow they shed these individually.I sometimes find them clogging up my filter intake, a good sign of healthy growth.

I also find mine beach themselves quite a bit, so yours will take full advantage of any and all dry land they get.

Keep us posted.

how horrible.... wow cool you have one too... what is shedding scutes.. all this is new to me... you don't have to apologise .. i bet they do look alot bigger in pics,...mine was like a quarter size the end of spring..so i wonder if they are growing okay...
:chillpill: It isnt that direct it needs to be a combo of circunstances, normaly cold and not very clean water, its much more usual in pet shop brougth turts and small ones, yours should be safe:) Just keep the water changes and a dry basking place and your good to go:D

Also your turts will not take much more time untill is possible to make a reliable gess on their sex:D The males owesame front claws will start to gradualy develop as will their longer thick tail. Im able to sex my cooters, sliders, maps, etc, normaly at 1-1,5 years old. However sometimes it takes longer specialy because some animals resemble the animals of the opposite sex, quite interesting.;)

Yes they breed in captivity like any other turt:) but given the chance they are brothers dont breed them together. Males will be ready in about 5 years, females in 8-12 years or even more:D
