No, keeping them in there is fine. I'm sure it's quite humid in there too. One of the reasons they need a basking light is because in the wild they spend a good part of the day sunning themselves. Basking turtles need to be able to dry completely or they can develop skin fungus and are more susceptible to respiratory infections if a warm place to dry off is not provided.
:iagree:

i will order that combination light in my next order... here they are settled in permanatly... not moving them anymore..i am confident they know it all now.. :)

Coura, these guys are everywhere out where I live (Eastern & Midland Sub.). Probably the second most common species of turtle in my state after snapping turtles. They actually may be tied with Stinkpots for 2nd most common turtle.

They make great pets and are a far better turtle to start out with compared to RES's. I'd like to smack the guy who started the RES trend here in America when Painted Turtles are clearly the better choice for a pet turtle when you are limited on space.

I like painteds but its just... something missing;) Sliders have a natural sharm that its very caracteristic of them. I really like a big female res The males have more stile than females but females are more powerfull. They eat everything I give them, are praticly bullet prof and are darn pretty, what can we ask more for a turt? As for painteds, they are really rare, dont know a single private person here that has them outside of me. Like I said I had 2 but lost one the last winter:( Would love to build small breeding groups of all the subspecies:D And yes, they and musks and muds are very good for thouse limited in space
