Very nice Liz, can't wait to see the finished product. Your guys should be alright with the turtle dock for quite awhile, my YBS sinks it a little bit and he's bigger than any painted I've ever seen either in the wild or in a tank.

They've grown a lot and look very healthy, nice work. They can be a bit delicate as hatchlings but it looks like yours are well on the way to being nice healthy turtles. :)
i hope so... they eat only pellets now... i try to give them a treat with their old blood worm diet or frozen krill and they ignore it ...do your still eat everything... maybe when mine get more exercise they will be opt to eat more again... thanks very much..love to see your big paint..

just curious does anyone have fish in with their turtle{paints} how does that work out.. are turtles too messy for fish.. or is a couple of gold fish or other type a good idea..?

My first pet was a painted turtle. He ate every fish I put in his tank. I wouldn't recommend any fish unless you want them to be eaten.

oh no.... forget that..

FAST fish sometimes survive in a turtle tank. By "fast", I mean giant danios, rosy barbs, or tiger barbs. Otherwise, they're eventual food items.

Keeping fish and turtles can be pretty tricky. But I have had good luck with some species including painteds. If the turtles are brought up not being fed live fish like guppies and rosy reds, they may not associate them with food. I'd wait until they're a bit older before giving it a try. Space is also key. If they're confined to a small tank then the two species have more close interaction with each other. It's only a matter of time before the turtle takes a test bite to see if it's fish buddy tastes good. I kept my painteds in an outdoor pond containing Sunnies, Rock Bass and Bullheads and I never lost a fish to them. The pond was also 600 gallons.

On a side note, I just bought my first wussy fish in a long time yesterday. I bought 10 Giant Danios to keep with my stinkpots. I didn't loose any when I checked on them this morning. And my turtles could care less about them. I also think they're way, way too fast for them to catch.

i think if i had a large pond like that i would try it..but i quess these guys in the 30 gal is not enough space to feel safe ... and turtles do dirty water faster so i will just keep them by themselves.. and there is two of them so they have company to keep them active.. thanks... your pond must be so cool to watch....

ive kept my painted with, lmb, bluegill, cons, and polys (the only one he killed was a sick poly) right now he is kept with a firemouth with no problems
