  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
yep got an infraction because of the trolls on this thread. haha.. looks like hes doin great. keep up with the pix

Guys, when fish are walking, talking, and ruling over the world while we humans are swimming in the water and eating each other, I'll be more inclined to treat these fish like they're humans. They're not, they're lower life forms and it's just the way the world works.

To the OP, to be able to keep an octo in a bucket like that for this long obviously shows that you know what your doing. Kudos to you :)

Today the octopus has been more active then ever and is definately seeming to be less afraid of me. I just took a peak at him and he shot two arms toward my hand that was on the rim of the bucket. Startled the crap out of me!

Ive talked to a friend that has a SW tank he will give me some live rock crumbles and live sand. On that subject, he only has a 10 gallon tank so needless to say I can only take a small amount. His tank has been set up for 8 years now with the same damsel fish, but will that small amount be good enough to seed the tank? Interestingly, he says he has not done a water change in a year, just tops it off with dechlorinated tap water (he is a biologist so I dont doubt his story).

Will actively start looking for a tank this weekend. Im either just going cheap with a 10-20 gallon tank or spend a bit of cash and get a 29 gallon biocube.

Also talked to a guy at a LFS today, I know you have to always take LFS with a grain of salt, but he did say that many of his customers get water directly from the Gulf. Im going on day 13 of keeping an octopus alive in a 5 gallon bucket. Not only alive but feeding and feeding well, who woulda thunk it?

When I lived there, a few friends of mine got there water from the gulf, plus that beautiful white sand. The little amount of rock that he gives you, will help seed your tank and speed up the cycling process. It will still be required to cycle IMO. Do you plan on buying more rock? Or you could even make your own and cure it in the ocean before adding it to your tank.

Uploading a video to youtube now. This guy has pretty much lost all fear of me. When I looked in the bucket earlier he swam up to me and settled into the filter. I put my finger at the surface of the water and he came out to grab it. I grabbed my camera and took these two pics before the flash pissed him off and he swam back down. Then I took the video Im going to post in a minute.

Funny how the haters have disappeared. This guy is doing great and pretty much instantly feeds on anything I throw in there (mostly shrimp).

Do me a favor and make some toy blocks with MLB teams on them... maybe we can get him to predict when the Marlins are gonna win.... :naughty:

Hey, it worked for soccer!

I havent disappeared and I am far from a hater. Im actually very happy that you are able to appreciate the little mollusk's charm and personality and I think this turned out for the best for everyone involved. Nice job on keeping him alive and taming him.
