Getting new car..advice?

Thank you all for your continuing help on this issue. I dont know anyone else to ask these things.

It has a screen that has radio, the dvd, bluetooth, navigation and some other input stuff. Its a touch screen. Was this an add on?

Also ballin I've been driving around like normal already.i never really noticed these things during the test drive but since I have notice a few things:

The message center beeps often for no reason like to wArn me that a door is ajar (when it isnt) and the. Shows me the milage for whatever reason, and other things that arent really happening.

Rear sensor or i guess it had a rear camera for backing up doesnt work.

The vin registered shows this car was an eddie baur edition? It doesnt say so on the outside of the car and with no manual is there anywhere else on the car i cam confirm this?

Also the oil and battery life gauges are in the middle and dont move so i dont know if these are correct or just broken and stuck. I would check the oil myself but ive been too lazy to get a step stool.....yes a step stool..i dont reach over car :( >.<

Honestly other than those little things everything inside is working fine. And what little mechanical things i know i have seen them well. The engine and parts look pretty new or well kept.

Ive still been scared to drive this thing fast at all. Is that weird? Maybe its new car jitters but it just feels so honkin huge i feel like i cant rev up to 50-60 after a red light like i would on my husbands honda accord. Lol i feel like if i rev this big thing up to 60 its gonna fall apart lol

Btw this has a 5.4l engine. Hope that helps for anything.

All the options you have come with the eddie bauer edition, so they aren't added, they came with themodel, the dvd, the navigation, the back-up sensors, heated/cooled seats. Usually eddie bauer editions have it outside on the trim, and on the seats on the headrests. Its possible yours didnt, or that it has had a paint job, and it wasn't replaced. However, you defintiely have the eddie bauer edition.

You can scroll through the message center. I have mine to always tell me how many miles til E. It will always display something. The door open message would bother me. We just bought a used lincoln aviator for my husband. We noticed a few minor problems within a day or two. We took it down to the dealer and they made everything right. They even had it sent to the lincoln dealer to replace a sensor so that the advance trac message would go away.

The reason I say this is because that message center is important. If something is displaying that is not happening, it could mean the trucks computer is going bad. This is a VERY big expensive problem.

Now, that being said, my hubbys cadillac displays all sorts of messages because we dont use genuine cadillac parts when fixing things. So they don't have a sensor on them. So, while it was a problem, we still fixed it, and it isn't any longer. But the computer had no way to know that without the sensor.

My explorer doesn't do that. It tells me to change brake pads, I change em, it goes away. It told me to check charging systems, I replaced the alternator, it went away. All without genuine ford replacement parts.

I suggest you take it to the dealer and point out every single problem, no matter how minor. If he is a reputable dealer, being so soon after purchase, he should make it right.

As far as speeding up, your 5.4l engine gives you an amazing amount or torque and HP, so rev away lol, you'll be surprised. just remember easy around turns, its an SUV and its easy to roll 'em

I hope I helped some, don't wanna freak you out, but its a big purchase, and you wanna be sure everything is right.

Ok were getting somewhere. So now i have to find a ford dealer and have them point out whats right and wrong. Hopefully my mechanic an fix the other stuff. I have to figure out how to scroll through the message center. That issue is not as bad as the hazards coming on issue. When ever i turn on the dashboard light dimmer at night the damn hazards go on an even after turning the lights off it keeps going :screwy:

My other issue would be this clacking sound when i turn on the rear ac vents. :(

I have no clue about the hazards... maybe someone more experienced will chime in.

I will check what the button is called to scroll through... i do know its three buttons and the bottom one should scroll through. If there is a message displayed, like mine currently says oil change required, you have to hit reset first to clear it out. whatever is up there will come back though, faithfully lol. You have to reset it yourself after an oil change. it comes up every 3,000 miles, its not a real gauge of your oi life.
 
Ok so i found the scroll button. Pretty cool. It says 13.1 mpg which is not bad considering my van is suppose to get 17 mpg highway. Im guessing it was similar on the street. It said i had 131 miles to empty. I hope all those things are being measured correctly and that computer is working properly. Does that miles till empty sound correct considering its a bit less than half way?

Also i usually have to wait for my daughter once a day for about 10-20min in a line. I park and turn off the car , this really helps gas? Could i leave the dvd player on while i do this?

Yeah the miles to empty is pretty close to accurate. It adjusts itself as you drive. It also is slightly whacky. If I park like on a curb with my passenger side elevated it throws my gas and how far to E off and I gotta wait for it to say computing fuel.

I told you the expedition got better mpg than the explorer lol. I get 11.9 currently. I don't understand it but everyone I know who has experience with both says the same thing.

I'm a fan of turning the car off if I'm sitting longer than 10 minutes. I've heard varying stories regarding that. You can turnn the car off and put the key in the on position and still use the DVD. It's not a big enough drain on the battery to worry in that short amount of time.

i always take cars that i'm test driving on the highway and floor it and sustain a high speed for awhile (reach up to 90 or 100 then cruise at 80). i don't know, if something's gonna happen, i wanna know before i buy it.

you should get the computer checked out, i had came home from work one day, parked, ran in and changed clothes and ran back down to go pick my girlfriend up from the airport and the car wouldn't start. wasn't trying to turn over, nothing, just completely dead. towed it a local mechanic, he couldn't figure it out and towed it to the local ford dealership, it was the computer. it just had to be rebooted and i never had that problem again. cost me a pretty penny though
 
Ok well i finally had mechanic come check it out (for whoever still cares out there lol). He gave the car a clean bill of health :) he said the breaks could be replaced as theyre squeely and it needs an oil change but other than that its good. So far im still riding on the $20 sunday night gas. Still at about 1/4 till E. it says 86miles to empty. Honestly in my van i would have needed gas tomorrow probably. So not so bad. I still need to take it to a ford to see if i can get the key alarm thingy and keyless entry programmed.

He said there was something he needs to fix somewhere. He will do it when he comes back for the brakes but its suppose to be an easy fix. Its the same reason its saying theres a door ajar when there isnt.
