Getting new car..advice?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
electrical system can be problematic on those vehicles. especially a customized one. hopefully they didnt screw much up adding that aftermarket nav/blutooth combo. just checked a 2003 eddie bauer we have annd no blinking light to the left of the steering wheel. could be aftermarket security, some form of lojack, or gps disabling unit from finance company (only if u went through very sub prime financing)

It was a buy here pay here kinda dealer. I have no idea the history of this vehicle, its my understanding these are all bank repos. As it is the navigation on the touch screen doesnt even work. Nor does the bluetooth. Great huh?

I've had many cars and the rule you should always follow is, never buy a car with over 50k miles. All problems happen at that point because let's face it most people beat their cars even if they say they don't because they have no respect for it and know they aren't gonna keep it.

Next rule- Always ask for the carfax so you know what the car has been through.

My co worker has a newer expedition and he loved it for about 2 years and now he wants to get rid of it. He actually wants the ford flex which imo is a very good suv and far better option that the large boat suv's. His big problem was lights coming on when nothing was wrong and the mpg.

I myself hate trucks and large suv's just because I drive trucks all day at my job. I prefer sports cars(reason why I own mustangs) just because they are the best car to me. Hopefully the car works out for you and doesn't become a money pit.

Honestly i had to go by budget and quality at the end of the day. Compared to the cars i had seem in my budget this car was the best. Ide hate to think what the other had in store. Im glad the mechanic found no problems, i wish i could have gotten a car with less miles but it just wasnt realistic with my budget. I thought this car was very recommended. Im happy with it. I cant complain. Who knows maybe it will come back to haunt me later but for now i cant say the car is bad or a bad choice.

There is a chance that the navigation may require a subscription. Also, usually trucks can go.for many more miles than cars. All the problems you have named are minor. So long as the big stuff, engine, transmission are good, all the rest just comes with the territory of buying any used vehicle.

I loved my expedition. I'd still have it right now if I didn't total it after sliding on black ice. I am sure you will encounter some things, but I bet you will be happy with your purchase.

I have to be grateful the issues are minor not dwell on them :) trust me if you had seen the cars and their conditions i saw that day o.O this was a rolls royce. Besides its a used car, i couldnt have expected it to be problem free. The only car i saw with 60,000 miles on it was a 2012 saturn that was twice the payments im making now. Like i said i wish i didnt have the budget.

My last car was a 99 van that had a bad rock and piston and belt within the week and broken down. So hey at least this is a 2003 so im moving up in what i can afford. :)
