Getting rid of fish

I love it how you guys just feed unwanted fish to your big fish. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying it's wrong, It's just a bit of a weird concept for someone with an angelfish as his biggest fish lol.

Its hard to get rid of fish sometimes especially when u get alot of them in as a rescue and for free...i frequently "go through" my stock and feed fish to my big boys as it benifits them very well. Theres no better meal for a monster in my opinion than a healthy 5"-12" fish.

I think that you should get rid of a fish if you don't want it or can't take care for it as long as you don't release it into the wild, and if you can find a good home for it all the better than killing it

There is one obstacle stand in the way of getting rid of the unwanted fish for me...

I can't catch the fish in my tank unless it's dead.

I have 4 8inch x 11 inch openings on a 96x24 foot print 30 inches tall tank. Can't catch a thing that moves by themselves in there :P Dead fish blowing in the current, yes I can ;)

Pshhh I can't catch anything in my 40 gallon unless it comes up to get fed or I drain the water

I dont have a problem either way so im not having a go at anyone, but I still can't get my head round it being ok to kill a fish by feeding it to another, but not by say cutting its head off. As far as the fish is concerned its the same. I know I wouldnt feel any better about dying if I knew I was going to be eaten lol

It's a waste to just "kill" a fish. Like I said earlier, if the fish is not working out for some reason, at least if you feed it to some other fish, they get a great, healthy meal. Seems like it's more practical than just flushing it or cutting it's head off.

I get the not wasting it part. And I get the healthy meal part. Im not condemning it either cus ive done it myself. I personally cant see any difference from an ethical/moral standpoint between the methods of dispatch. Either way, waste or no waste, the fish is dead. Because, for whatever reason it was no longer required.

It would take some sort of catastrophe for me to get rid of any of my bichirs (or my goldfish, I love those goofy dudes) but I don't see the problem with getting rid of fish to get new fish. I sold some synodontis cats to make room for my moke and I sold some tiger barbs when the bichirs got big enough to eat them. As long as it's done responsibly I don't see why people would care; it's a great way to get full grown specimens into the trade and lets people try different species without making them have a million gallons of tanks.

Most people don't really care if they had a spare 29 tank with breeding convicts for their aro. They would feed the 1.5 inch feeders and not think twice.

What's the different from feeding the adult 4.5 inch convict? Only difference I see is that it is bigger and I cared for it longer. Other than that....does it matter?

Just throwing up an example. What makes it okay to feed the fry as feeders, but if I fed the adults that I longer wanted I should feel bad? Its a good question when you think about it.
