So the lfs I work at just got in some "asian farm-bred peacock bass" through AQA Imports. I would guess monoculus, but can't say for sure. They are about 2".

Not sure if it matters, but they can make their center spot disappear. You can see this in a few of them in the pic. I'll be picking up six today, just curious what they might be.

i would also say Mono's....are you picking up the lot of them?

I plan on only getting six, but since I'm getting them at cost, I may get a few more. In juvies, what do you look for to determine monoculus from orinocensis, or ocellaris for that matter?

Only in this year have anyone attempted to actually ID any cichla under 7'' so it's a toss of the dice. But if there Ocel's have rings around them then Orino. If there tail line has a deep yellow outline then there most likely Mono. And Occelaris is having neither of the above descriptions. Try and get a real close picture on one of them full body shot and we can see if we can Id them.

From thos pics they look mono to me, but like High City RIda said, try and get some close ups going..

Man they are hard to get pictures of! I did manage to get a couple that show their markings. I'm still thinking mono, which is my preference out of the three common species. The water spots are on the back glass, nothing I can do about them, sorry.

This pic is over exposed, but shows the yellow around the caudal stripe. If you look at the soft dorsal you can see some yellow spangling there too. This spangling is also in in the dorsal surface of the fish starting at the beginning of the soft dorsal and going to the caudal fin. None of the pictures show this.

This pic isn't of the greatest quality either, my zoom sucks, but it shows the dorsal spangling well.

And finally, the best closeup picture I got. Amazingly, I got a yawn in the same pic.

They school around with the rasboras, which are fed Tetra Colorbits. When I fed last night, two of the bass actually ate a piece themselves. A couple Siamese Algae Eaters in the tank chased them around a bit, I guess they look too similar. All in all, I'm really happy with them. I can't wait until they can go with my pikes.

Man those picture are hard to tell what they are! If I had to say the look Orinoish but with out CLEAR pics we can't really Id them. Keep trying to get a better pic. There tail line looks to thin to be Mono's. And there tail lower bottom fin would be a more intense red imo...

lol who knows what they are, you will find out when they get larger, what i do know is those tetras are bait
