you can make normal bettas short finned by fighting them. just don't let them kill each other. let emheal and fight them again and again soon there fins are short

i like the short finned ones myself the should sell them over here and sell them in tanks not the jars I get really upset when fish stores house bettas in jars so they stock more thats what tank dividers are for

look for plakats. and in female betta tanks, ive never seen a female tank without a few short finned males in the mix. the hozizontal and vertical barring not present in the fish will show males if you have a keen eye.

Are they as aggressive as the normal bettas?

Short-fin Males are common in Thailand. They're considered the best "fighters" because of their short fins. I believe they seem to look bigger than normal bettas because of their short fins. It makes them appear bigger. In fact, they're about the same size as a normal betta...they just look stalkier. They are, however, more aggressive than the normal betta and have more color. Sorry to say, Sen_Jie, but they would max out at 6" to 8" They'll probably be max out at 4"
in fact, those short tail fighters which u mention above are a cat on their own. they hav the fighting genes within them and is carried down the line. if u will to notice, those fighters tend to hav fancy colours fins and a dark coloured body. and if u observe carefully, they got huge mouth too.

as for the max size, mine contain abit of a mix blood, which carries the marble line, thus they will max out at ard 4 to 5 inch. but those solid colour giants, i can confirm with u that they will max out at 8 inch. i hav seen 1 before

cheers

It's too bad regular long finned bettas don't get bigger. Just picture how amazing a 12" male betta would look.

but they cost quite a bomb too hahaha

the vertical bars shows it is a female, but it can only be shown in a dark coloured betta. the light coloured bettas doesn;t shows such bars. u got to look at the egg sag.

as for the horizontal bars, they will be present in all bettas till the age of ard 2 months old. and another reason y horizontal bars will be present, coz the betta is afraid and stress..
