Frankly, I do not think Aphry has made a mistake. A person is a victim when they are misled and deceived.

Everytime I pass through the fish section at WalMart, I'm amazed. It's not surprising that people buy cute big-eyed baby pacu. There are always tons of little pacu in a small tank with much bigger oscars. The 3" oscars look like monsters compared to the pacu. Here's the sign:

I guess that's not false advertising--pacu do grow to 10 inches..... and 20 inches and 30+ inches. I believe it was Ben Franklin who stated (liberally paraphrased) "the greatest lie is half the truth"

The oscar is about 3 inches, so you can see how little the pacu are.

It saddens me that the majority of these wonderful personable fish are doomed---doomed to shortened lives in small tanks with miserable water parameters, or euthanized because their owners can no longer keep them and cannot find another home for them. There are not enough rescuers for all the pacu who need rescuing. :( I wish pacu weren't readily available to the general public.

I'm very glad that Aphyr's pacu will be fortunate enough to get a new home.

Thank you so much Pacu Mom for explaining with these pictures that say it all.. and let no one forget that you all were once newbies .. you did not know it all before you educated yourself from others that were once newbies..

Unfortunatly by "saving" these fish from places like Wal-mart they feel that there is a demand for the fish which in turn means that they order more of them which means lower pricing which means more people buy them which leads to more being "saved" which leads to larger orders by Wal-mart and so on...

I agree that I have come to apoint of seeing these types of fish being sold with misinformation and I always make it a point to get the store to correct the information ASAP so that there is some type of "real" information available at POS (Point of Sale) but I also will not support the stores like wal-mart by "Saving their stocked fish"
