They cut it's throat, you don't even see blood. How would you kill a turtle? There's nothing unnecessary in what they did. Killing an animal is never delightful, but this one was not particularly inhumane. Maybe I've just got a more of a stomach for stuff like this, perhaps it was being raised in Texas, I don't know.

It doesn't help that they're endangered. And the fact that it was such an old turtle makes it that much worse.

It's been pointed out that killing one turle in the big picture isn't that significant, seing as how polution and such do much worse damage. Also, would you rather them kill baby turtles.

Actually yes, because an adult can breed versus a baby that will take years to mature.

But to pull the same bounty of valuable meat etc... they would have to kill a large number of babies, which would make the people direct competitors with the other animals that eat baby turtles, so instead of affecting one turtle, or one species, you are now affecting multiple species.

The domino effect is still there no matter how you cut it.

Let's not lose sight of the fact that these guys did not want to catch the turtle. They were after fish.

There's your answer. Killing one IS significant. If that was the mindset, each one would be shrugged off, until they were completely gone.....which is very much a near future possibility. That ONE would lay +/- 100 eggs every season. Pollution, etc are another problem, but simply pointing out one as worse than the other, doesn't fix either.

It's not a debate of should you kill baby or adult. It's the fact that they're being taken at all. I understand the people and what they did. You have to provide for your family. That is the true domino affect. If those people were not so needy, they wouldn't have taken it (hopefully anyway).

I do have to point out that the guy said they had very tasty meat. Thinking more about it, that doesn't sound quite so needy, but maybe using that as a good excuse......??

Even how appalled I was at that movie, he is right. They had to get there money back for the catch, whether it be a 1000lbs of fish or a 200lb turtle. Eat or be eaten.:irked:
