That's a big fish but I have questions regarding the photo. Is the fish resting on his knees while he is carrying it? I had to ask because there is no way a grown man can carry a fish that heavy with his arms extended out like that.

Arms aren't extended. Arms are at side. No need to push that one out to make it look bigger.

The looks of the fish are due to the fact that it is spawned out. In the ocean, these bad boys (and girls) are bright and chrome with a purple sheen. When they get ready to spawn and die in the fresh, they actually change form quite a bit. They get gold to gold-black and then red with the males develping the hooked nose. Nice fish, glad it got the chance to pass those nice genes on to the stuggling Cali area fish. Monsters like that are still a great catch even in AK.

Here's the world record: 97 lb

sorry no sale

Do some research. Chinook or King Salmon regularly reach that size, especially in Alaska.

I am teaching about salmon right now and I googled the world record picture today to show my students exactly how big they can get. Cool stuff.

To bad for you they don't get that big in the great lakes:D

As for them "regularly" over eighty pounds in the North, I guess so. Dozens of the thousands that or sport caught and more commercially. I've lived and guided in ak for years and the largest I put a client on was 63. But of course that is an ocean fish, the river slugs don't fight as nice.

no way that's real. i do A LOT of fishing, and there is no way in hell a guy holds a fish that big out in front of his body. even on his knee he wouldn't be able to grip it well enough, especially without his left hand even being all the way under the fish. you'd have to have your arms under it almost. no doubt that's a big fish.....but not the size that picture suggests.

this fish was only 81 lbs. - and i dont think he's getting that fish in front of him.....even with a knee. show me one REAL picture of someone holding even a 75+ lb. salmon up horizontally in front of them and i might believe that first picture.

Look closely, he is resting the fish on his knee. He is obviously straining to do it to.
