Thanks for the links guys. I don't think that will work for me though because it is only for the early stages of gill curl. And the old owner told me has had this for quite some time. Pics will be up in the morning.

very interesting fix i must say...

I'd like to see before and after pics of anyone who has tried this.

Do surgery.

It is very easy and in my experiences it has worked. You will need to knock the fish out though.

I used clove oil and ethonal.

The key is to get it before its too late. If you leave it too long the hard plate will start to curl. This will make the surgery difficult because it is much harder to get a nice clean cut on the hard plate. It takes more time and time is not on your side when the fish is out of the water.

I recently done the gill curl operation on my 6'' Green aro.I had a drenched wet towel laid out, sterilized some curved Nail scissors,a wet face washer and some antiseptic (i used betadine) I took the aro out of the tank, laid it down on the wet towel, covered its eyes and body with the wet face washer to keep the fish calm because i didnt knock i out, carefully trimmed back the gill and then applied betadine to the cut gill. The whole operation took 60-90 seconds.Fully recovered in about 5 to 6 weeks.

:WHOA: NO anesthesia?...No flopping around?

yeah, little bit of flopping around, but once covered with the towel he settled down.
Can you say STRESS!!
wouldn't that be like getting a nose job, with a sheet over your head?...against your will?

I've used clove oil to anesthetize my Oranda so I could trim his wen...it easy to do, their metabolism slows down while they are under and they recover well from it in freshwater...
