Gill Curl Advice

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
My LFS advised me to do it that way and I did ask them about knocking him out and they said not to worry about anesthetize him. I only had to trim one gill back and it only took 60-90 seconds.....and comparing it to a nosejob:jaw:.......Id say a bit more like pulling a hook out of a fishes mouth when fishing and then releasing it.

Can you say STRESS!!
wouldn't that be like getting a nose job, with a sheet over your head?...against your will?

I've used clove oil to anesthetize my Oranda so I could trim his wen...it easy to do, their metabolism slows down while they are under and they recover well from it in freshwater...

And you don't think that causes stress? IMO anesthetize...

I would be doing surgery on that fish asap.

I very highly doubt the massaging technique will work on that fish. The hard plate of the gill has already curled.

It will be hard enough to cut it let alone massage it. Getting a clean, close cut on a hard gill plate is not so easy.
