No it deffo wasn't a Pike. But the colours are dead right. Just the shape.

The body shape was quite close, mabye a bit longer and not as high backed still. The colours aren't right though. There was little black on it, and the colours were more blended not as defined.

It's settled then, it was a hybrid between the two.
 
I think I can almost imagine the fish your talking about. I can't find it on the internet (although I havn't tried too hard) but I think I've seen one at one of my LFS. It's one of those fish that lives at the store, and isn't really for sale I think. If I go into the store soon, I'll look for it and ask about it.
 
go to jeff rapps's www.tangledupincichlids.com. Look at all the fish's photos and find the fish. If not bring the closest looking one here and we'll go from there. Is it a festea male?
 
Here is the closest I could find but
This fish has more green and red on it. The fish had more red than green and most of the green was on the gill plate and fins.
