Now we have Glo-Angels in PINK!:irked:

Why!? What is your thought on this? I personally don't like all these wierd fish coming out lately. I like the natural, wild looking fish. The price on these fish is outragous right now, but I figure soon enough even PetSmart will have them.

I'm pretty sure they are still only in asia & not being retailed.

Lol cool, have already seen the green ones before. They have had florescent protein Angelfish, Convicts, and a couple others for quite awhile now but none of it has hit the US yet. Still waiting for GloParrots!

Pretty awesome, the angels look really good. I can understand why folks might not be too keen on them, though.

I personally really like them because of the original SCIENCE!!! concept behind the original danio Glofish.

The first one that came out was the one that expressed Green Fluorescent Protein (GFP), which is normally found in a certain species of jellyfish. The others that have since come out contain variations of that original gene. They were originally developed to help detect water pollution! The protein has a half-life of about 18 hours. If there is any chemical toxin in the water that affects the health of the fish, their colors will fade because they stop making it (I do not think that heat or pH stress would be enough to cause this to change AS much as toxins). Once they are returned to clean water, they will color back up, since it's coded in their genes, and not injected like those awful dyes that people inject into glass tetras. The change to DNA is a simple insertion for the protein itself, no other changes have been made to the fish. If released, their potential environmental impact is arguably LOWER than that of other danios, because thier bright colors would cause them to be preferentially preyed on.

If you have a family member that you are trying to get more interested in the fish hobby, it'd be worth adding them to a community tank.

I hate it when they take nature out of things. There are some things we just shouldn't stick our hands into.

They are naturally occuring pigments from deep sea jellyfish, they are just putting more nature into them

Same with our domestic animals......none of our domesticated animals are very natural. Don't be hypocrite :)

Ive always liked the natural coloraton and patternin of fish better their natural apeal is why angelfish have become one of the faces of the freshwater aquarium hobby

You should see any LFS here! Hahaha! It's like a parade of wonderful colors, morphs, oddities and forms. Some giant gouramis here come in a rainbow of colors: on their scales! Blood parrots not only come in avocado green like above. Oh and you will see a row of tanks where you can almost complete the forms and evolution of the flower horn. Cichlas here are being crossed too much, you wouldn't what kind it already is. I have not seen glowing fishes but I guess there are those farther north. Don't forget Asian Arowanas.
