Goby collection start..

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I've added an Emerald Crab, Porcelain Crab (both very fun to watch go around the tank, looking for food) and a red Mushroom. Nothing too fancy, but it adds a little..life to the tank. Sounds like I might be getting a good number of red Star Polyps as well, mainly because they are becoming pests in another tank, but I don't mind. Trying to keep it simple with the low lighting and not being very experienced with corals just yet. Still nothing on the main order just yet, but all of the Gobies are alive and well!

Think I've found the final Goby stock for the main 55.
1x Yellow Watchman
1x Metallic Shrimp Goby
1x Diamond Goby
Seems to work, and I'll just have to keep it that way, lol. I also picked-up a Clown Tang the other day as well, and added more lighting in hopes of getting the Mushrooms to multiply (Without chopping them up). The Clown Tang has beautiful coloring, absolutely gorgeous fish. I'll snap some pictures tonight.
Still fighting the algae problem in the tank-

I've got another update, with some bad news, and no pics yet again.
X I lost the Clown Tang to what seemed to be stress from the ich he had from the shop; a quarantine tank has been setup finally, which is good news I suppose.
X I also lost my two Firefish, which later turned out that my male Emerald Crab was killing them. I would have never guessed that he would be an issue.
X The Emerald ALSO killed the Metallic Shrimp Goby....I'm constantly making these simple mistakes that are costing the tank its stock, and taking away from my own wallet! So, the Emerald crab is no longer in the tank, and I will be adding an algae crew to replace him.
✔ Last night I tore down the tank, and scrubbed every bit of algae off the rock, the glass, filter, heater, sand, etc. It. Looks. Good. Raised the magnesium levels in the tank, so hopefully that keeps it from showing up too soon. This is the first time in two years that I have really taken care of the algae problem.
✔ I've also picked up some new Gobies for different setups. One being a BlueFin Watchman Goby with a Tiger Pistol Shrimp. Both are very fun to watch move different pieces of gravel around the tank. I also picked up a F. maximus Goby that is doing very well. Eating just about anything that is put into the tank; cool, little, transparent Goby.
X Tiger Watchman is posted in my Goby collection in my sig, which was true, however, because he was new at the shop I just bought him right away. Judging by his body weight at that time, it seemed as if he had internal parasites, which ultimately led to his death not too long after. Impulse buy, but I will find one with a healthy look to it...eventually.
✔ The rest of the Gobies seem to be doing well, and I did learn that the smaller 'Yellow Watchman' is actually an unidentified species of Watchman known as the Lightbanded Watchman/Lightbanded Shrimp Goby. He will stay small like that.
I will get a new Metallic Shrimp Goby for sure! Just need to wait for one to show....
Here are some pics of the two new Gobies *Not mine* I will post actual shots hopefully soon.

The main 55-Gallon is a work in progress; I just hope the things start going more smoothly from now on. I will have to be more careful when dealing with different species going into the tank.

The 55-Gallon is still clear of algae!
Added a few more corals; pulsating xenia, and some more mushrooms. A Clownfish was also added, as it was the one fish that everyone had been asking for. :P
I do have two new gobies, one finally being the Orange Spotted Shrimp Goby, and another being a species that I have yet to ID. I believe it was collected off of the east coast, but I forgot to ask the orginal owner. It is a smaller species, probably a little over an inch, maybe 2" at the most, and full grown. More pics of the Gobies and the tank later.

No mandarin yet ? :D Nice gobies !!

I wish! They come into work all of the time, but I know I wouldn't be able to keep one living in one of my tanks with how expensive it would get to keep it well fed. :nilly: One day, maybe.
I do have some shots of the Orange Spot, as well as the mystery Goby which I believe to be similiar to the look of Coryogalops tessellatus. There are a few different species that seem to match the ID, and he hides constantly, which doesn't make it any easier for me to get good ID.
Anyway, here are some shots-

They are in two different tank setups, just in-case. I may do a 55-Gallon SW setup for smaller species of Goby. The Hi-Fin Banded can be seen under the rock in the 2nd picture of the Orange Spotted Goby- the two of them seem to get a long just fine. Not very aggressive species, compared to the larger Watchmans.
