Going blackwater.

It looks better already :). Are you keeping track of ph levels? If so how many leaves did you add also size and grade? I have read that you can put 2 to 3 large leaves per 25 gallons of water for larger aquariums, not sure what I am going to do as of yet but I will post results as well

I haven't checked my ph yet today...I will when I'm in the tank tonight removing decor (so G stops breaking my stones lol). I put my last 20 grade C leaves in. I'm hoping it'll get me close to the color I'm looking for. I have 9 leaves in my 75 gallon and love the look.

I really like the way this looks. But not sure if I wanna add another thing to maintenance. I'm sure more needs to be added after a WC???

I'll prolly only do this if it's PROVEN to help with HITH.

I'm interested to see how maintaing the look will play out as well. I think my setup of an AC110 dedicated to almond leaves shouldn't add much work. As far as PROVING to help with HITH, Hulon has a blackwater setup and has an issue...I'm sure my water quality is nowhere near as good as his, I'm more after 'the look' as opposed to battling HITH.

I might have to rey this with my Oscar tank for a different look. Do you leave them in the filter all the time or once you get tour color take them out

Is it possible to have a planted tank with black water? Does the black water seriously limit the light to the plants?

As far as plants, it would depend on your lighting and type of plants. I have anubias on driftwood in my rhom tank that I'm running a 48" Beamswork LED. I have noticed no change in the few weeks since going blackwater in the tank. Still seems healthy.

That is jcardona1's old 405g.
That tank was a sight to see.
That occel pictured in the tank was one of my first cichla.

I too like that look...
I may try it just for a change of pace and see if the fish moods change.
But....I like my clear water :)

G- in the short time that I've gone blackwater, I've noticed all 3 of my bass now chase the paper towel when I'm cleaning the glass. Not that I would say they were shy before, but they seem more confident and personable. My big guy (13" Pleio) even bit my hand last night when I was removing decor. Could just be coincidence, but could be them being more comfortable in the blackwater setting.
