Going blackwater.

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
G- in the short time that I've gone blackwater, I've noticed all 3 of my bass now chase the paper towel when I'm cleaning the glass. Not that I would say they were shy before, but they seem more confident and personable. My big guy (13" Pleio) even bit my hand last night when I was removing decor. Could just be coincidence, but could be them being more comfortable in the blackwater setting.

I've been stalking this thread and would just like to say

As far as plants, it would depend on your lighting and type of plants. I have anubias on driftwood in my rhom tank that I'm running a 48" Beamswork LED. I have noticed no change in the few weeks since going blackwater in the tank. Still seems healthy.

In all fairness tho anubias needs little to no light special lighting which is why it's one of my favorite aquatic plants.

Keep your eyes open to the pH of the water, it will drop a bit for sure, so keep checking it.

And be careful at the water changes, the stress of the pH variation when doing WChanges when using almond leaves can be bad.

Now its look a bit more like Rio Negro =p

SOunds about right.
They must enjoy the new water if they werent acting like that before.
Keep those pics rollin.

Mopani driftwood is great for tannins but I hate how it takes up tank space. I'd rather stick with the leaves. maybe try putting some in the tank itself.

I agree with you. I don't like the idea of making my 180 even smaller lol. Maybe using the leaves to make an extract would be better...that was it's easy to add after wc's...
