Toiletcar Toiletcar Thank you.

Little girl finally moved them to the front so I could get a picture.

I’m thinking I might move them tomorrow. Put half in each turtle tank and let them have them before they get too hard to catch.

A quick update on these guys.

I’m really loving this male. He is so pretty. Pictures just don’t do his spangles justice. He shimmers so beautifully in the sunlight.

And here is little girl with her babies. I keep thinning them out, but she still has a good amount with her still.

You're pumping these things with some sorta miracle grow. You juicin' em?
Haha

I swear it’s all about them being perfectly happy in their environment. These two have their own tank. Not a big tank, only a 30g atm. But it’s theirs. Well, and the lone neon.

The others that are all sharing a tank are not this good looking. Hardly any color, no interesting social behavior, just blah. But they aren’t truly happy or comfortable.
Then I have one in my African tank. It’s colored up some. It is a female. Some nipped fins so I know it’s not happy.

Then I have three in with mom and dad. All dark and seams haven’t filled out. Could be that all three are females, but not sure yet. None have shown interest in breeding. No egg tubes. Yet the lone female with the Africans has hers showing. And this female pictured above has spawned. So Idk.

If I wasn’t trying to downsize I’d set another tank up with 3 to let them shine up a bit. That’s really all it takes.

I feel like every GT fry is female until proven male. haha

I have one that is pushing 4", always showing the vertical barring, has patterns in the fins, but just looks like a fat female to me. They all look female damnit! I know at least a few are males but none really show any male characteristics at all. Maybe I'm just impatient. I swear these guys were hatched over 6 months ago. Its been quite some time

It can feel that way.
I have to look at vents around the 3” mark since their colors aren’t always in fully yet. It can be frustrating. Sometimes it’s really obvious when they are only 2” and other times they’ll be 5” and still can’t tell 100%.

Is venting at that age 100% determinant?

I've read many threads and articles about venting, but i looked at a few during the moving of fry and cant really even see the holes.

I vent looking at the side. Flipping them over you are right, you can hardly see anything. But *some* will be very easy to vent from the side.

Oh goodness that made me laugh. XD
I just try to get the very best side picture I can. You don’t want it angled up or down. Just straight on from the side.
I edited these pictures to show exactly where you see their *business*
Tomorrow I might be able to get a picture of another female that isn’t being kept with any males.
Female
Egg tube is blunt and sticking out just slightly.

Male
Small point angled towards the anal fin.
