Couldn’t get a great photo of him today plus lighting and iPhone camera combo is crap. This photo kinda represents his development it’s not a lot. He’s or possibly she is girthing up. You can kind of see his fins getting redder. I’ve fed him okiko platinum for a month now. Might go back to NLS or biogold I dont think there is enough info on okiko. Any thoughts?

Okiko is definitely a no go aswell as any other flowerhorn branded food. Definitely go back to NLS and bio gold. I don’t know why you ever switched. Their is little to no info on okiko. The only thing people know is the overedited photo of a high quality flowerhorn on the front.

Forgot to mention why it is bad though. The high Protein is far to high for a flowerhorns sensitive digestive system. Protein should be 35 to 45% versus the 65% on okiko which I believe is the highest on the market probaly making it the worst pellet to feed your flowerhorn. and I guarantee it will eventually lead to disease and an early death if of you continue to feed it. I have also heard mix “opinions” on whether their is hormones in it but they don’t guarantee it so I wouldn’t trust it. Their is also a lot of fake okiko sold as the real thing that quickly kills your flowerhorn apparently but there are ways to tell fake from real. Also if you look at the little ingredients that are even shown. Their is nothing a fish should actually eat. Sure it may color up your flowerhorn quickly and quite a lot but that is for impatient people who don’t give enough to properly research the food they are feeding. It can really negatively effect the long term health of the fish and guarantee an early death. I believe bio gold and NLS will do the same thing but may take longer but in a more natural way that will promote the long term health of your fish.

To promote the best growth in color for your fish your going to want to feed a variety of pellets. I actually feed a different pellet each day to my flowerhorn. Good brands are NLS, Northfin, Omega one, Hikari. NLS is probaly the best as far ingredients go but the others have their benefits and are ok ingredients wise. If you want to promote red coloration in your golden base just feed Hikari blood parrot food. This doesn’t guarantee anything though. Try out some different food of the brands above and see what each do s enhances the traits shown in your flowerhorn or bring back its old red coloration.

Ok. Thanks for your feedback. I tried It I suppose as a experiment. I did get some minor changes but you can’t really prove it was the food or not. I read some reviews that were positive but I can’t get rid of the feeling that I’m feeding him something harmful

Mix variety of food does help. No one food will be perfect for a GB. Patience too so u wont get too frustrated or bored. It took mine at least 8 months to look like a champ.

Holy crap. I thought mine was on his way to looking like that but it’s doesn’t seem to be the case. He came home so brilliant red and I feel like I take really good care of him. I really think I might have a trash flower horn. I’ve had mine for six months now

You need patience man. I consider what fish people cull trash flowerhorn. Your flowerhorn looks great.

Ok I plan on keeping him. I don’t think he has the genetics but we will see. I read that they can take 18 months to hit just about their adult size. I don’t know if that’s entirely accurate and obviously no two fish are the same. He’s got the classic personality and is mean as piss. He won’t let me handle him lately and I got the bite marks to prove it lol
