No, I don't think you should get bowls banned, I don't agree with them. Educating people why there bad, petitioning retailers not to sell is a much better idea. There's lots of people who want the whole of this hobby banned as soon as one part of it becomes banned it will make it easier for other people to get the other parts of the hobby banned. Imo much better to try and self police the hobby then start involving outside agencys to do it for us.

This had never crossed my mind.. A very good point that I intend to ponder. :)

I think tanks like that can have purpose, for example I use tiny tanks to quarantine tiny fish. But I don't think they should be purchased as display tanks. :)
It's bad for beginners. They'll see guppies and throw them in that tank, mistaking them for Bettas, or thinking they're similar. The next day they'll wonder why they have dead fish. Tanks like that are only for keeping Bettas, but Bettas do prefer more room than that. My Betta wouldn't have nearly enough room to do his happy dance in that tank. Those are only meant to keep fish alive, not happy and thriving.

I agree 100% but if they stopped selling/making them I'd have no quarantine tanks. Haha

Very true

Just to play devils advocate here, but also because I really do believe in proper tank size.
I believe an Oscar in anything less than 100 gallons, is also cruel and unusual punishment.
Should we make it a law to have Oscar police at all LFSs to check if anyone buying one, has a minimum 100 gal tank?

An oscar can survive better in a 55 than a goldfish in a bowl. But i get your point

I agree with dan518 dan518 , while I do not agree with bowls and those little tiny tanks you see so many people start with, I do not think going through the government is the way to deal with them. The government already has enough of a hand in the fish and exotic pet trade. Look at how many different fish are banned in states that make no sense. Sure, one was probably caught in a local lake at some point after it was dumped, which is obviously bad. But many fish we keep would not be able to take over, at least in the northern states.

They put one law into place governing how we can keep our animals and soon more and more rules follow.

As long as there is a buyer there will be a seller. Banning 1 kind could open the door to banning others(as mentioned).

A relative just gave us a 1.5 gallon tank. Shame it will never be used. I have a 5 gallon that's empty so why would I use that?
