Again, a little devils advocasy, but I do feel this way.
Relatively speaking, to me a 12" oscar in a 55 is about the same as a goldfish in a bowl, maybe worse.
Survival, is one thing, but actual livability is another.
When you compare the awareness that an adult oscar has of its surroundings, and even the room outside its glass prison, with the none awareness of 1" goldfish, the cruelty quotient becomes painfully apparent.

100% agree, there's many issues that need addressing in this hobby, just don't think we should get governments to do it for us

I agree, the government shouldn't be involved, and can you imagine what our taxes would need to be to police this kind of stuff.
The majority of farm raised goldfish have very short lives, because they are used for feeders anyway
Education is the key, and fighting the I want it urge to get something too large for the space we have.

That is what people were saying on the other forum. There are also different types of banning for example you could ban stores from selling bowls, you could ban possession of bowls and so on. I am not sure if I should keep trying to ban them or not. I agree that petitioning stores not to sell them is a good idea.

Seeing that goldfish reach almost 10" or larger with enough space and are very aware of people outside the tank and knowing where the food comes in (mine know exactly) kinda voids the statement. A 1"oscar probably isnt much aware either.

I think petitioning or taking a similar approach to PufferCorps PufferCorps would work best

I don't think bowls should be banned. Everyone starts somewhere in the hobby and some people start with a betta, a peace lily and a vase. Are you going to start going out and saying vases should be banned? Generally people who want to know why their fish died are going to go looking for awnsers on forums much like this one. I don't think it's any one persons place to tell others how to keep a fish. Yes you can advise them to not keep a stingray in a 30 gallon but no one person should have absolute control telling everyone else how to keep their fish (especially if they "know it all").

In my experience, boycotts are pretty unimpressive to big guys like Walmart. And heavy handed protesting just annoys most people. Education is what's workin for me.
A Puffer AWARE Walmart is a PUFFER FREE Walmart.

I actually agree with you for once. Also, the title is a joke. I don't actually think I know it all.

WE HAVE TO TELL THEM WHAT THE FISH NEEDS. Forget their childish arragance.
I have known people who bought horses, and knew nothing about their care, and came close to killing them. These people who place their wants above the welfare of the creatures entrusted to them, need to be dragged behind the barn. They need to learn a lesson in humility and patience, and read a book.
