I've never heard that the common goldfish was a hybrid. A hybrid of what?
I did read somewhere that the comet came from American breeders. But only from one source, and not a good one. So I disregarded it.
So you are saying the Chinese took the koi and crossed it with something to make it smaller?
I'm not into the fancy types, personally. But to each their own.
I like efficiency of design. For all that it can do. I don't think a design should be judged solely on it's ability to kill others, like most predators.
The comet is supremely adaptable. Can,and does live almost anywhere. In conditions that would quickly kill most all of the "tough guys".
No it can't fight well. And does not want to. But that can be a good thing. I don't always want the fish in my tank to be starting trouble.
Goldfish are designed as well or better than any other, for survivability.
And can look as good or better than any other. And they mind their business in a dopey sociable way.
Goldfish have nothing to be ashamed of. Well, not the comet anyway.
! She lend me her fish to put in our pond during the summer... I could not refuse, they kept the poor (now 7 inch) fish in a 10g for 5years, ... they had 3 goldies and one pleco in there... recently yet another goldie died and there is only the biggest one left... I kinda hope the poor thing will die during the summer so it won't have to go back in its tiny tank.... Albel;1911494; said:I'll incite them to take a beautiful betta next time!![]()
