Good price for motoro?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
It is an online order, so I am unable to check but she seemed fairly certain it was a male.

I have a 36 gallon bowfront as my QT tank, would I be ok to place it in there and go ahead and treat for any parasites? What kind of meds do you recommend and how long should he be in QT? I hate to stress him twice, but I also do not want to treat a 220 gallon tank full of healthy fish for parasites.

Anybody got any advice on this piece? Think it might have gotten overlooked with the price talk.

Myself I'd be a little hesitant to put a motoro in that small of a tank even for quarantine.

As far as meds prazi is what I have used in the past with good results. It is probably the safest parasite med to use.

Use prazi pro to treat for parasites and your 36g will be fine for a week or two as a quarantine. You may want to look for a captive bred as they tend to be healthier and be a better eaters.

I would invest in a cb marble if i were you..... if your using prazi its a 1 week treatment without waterchanges .....personally i wouldnt want to treat a ray in a 36 gallon for a week even if it is a pup.....

Thanks everyone, I am going to just spend the extra money and treat him in the 220.

Also, I appreciate the opinions, etc. I have just not had luck finding a motoro that was CB, that would ship, for a decent price, etc. He arrived today, it is for sure a male. He is a little pouty, but moving around the tank a little bit. None of the geos seem to be bothering him, just observing from a distance. And I didn't want to spend the extra money on a marble, it was already $65 to have him shipped, so I was already invested that extra amount and another 75-100$ would've made me cringe.

If all goes well with this guy, we will see about more expensive ones in the future. As I stated previously, the most I have ever spent on a fish was $30, so $150 + shipping was a tough pill to swallow. I have serious respect for you guys that don't mind dropping thousands on a ray, thats insane.

Well, so I originally was going to get a retic, but every article I read said Motoro was hardier. Frankly as a first ray, $150 is my max I want to spend, nobody around me carries or will even bother to order a ray, so I am very limited on what I can get. The other 5-6" pups I have found are all in the $150 + shipping range. So I am at the max I want to spend
retics are a bad idea for a first ray. good call on not.

motoros get big though so keep that in mind is all but yes from what I understand they are a hearty ray for a beginner with a tank big enough to keep one.

I think the best ray for the first time ray buyer is a hystrix they are hardy and don't get big and can be put in a 150-200 gallon but so hard to find one and are somewhat expensive.

pricepoint and rarity are why I didn't say them instead of a motoro lol

Yes, the 220 I have is glass and I am not fond of it, I had already been planning on getting a 240 gallon acrylic, but with the decision to get a ray, I decided to go for the 96x36x24 350 acrylic setup. This will be accomplished in the next 12-18 months, if it looks like he is getting too large for the 220 too soon, I may step up the date. But before jumping to the much larger tank, I wanted to make sure I am good enough to keep this guy alive and happy.

I have only ever had CA/SA Cichlids, so this is a whole new ball game for me. Also, since the last post he is swimming around the tank now and blowing sand all over the place, so I assume he is in search of food. I am going to go get some blackworms and some ghost shrimp this evening. See if he will eat yet. The store I bought it from said it was eating fine, didn't think to ask WHAT they were feeding him.
