oh yeah iv done that before for my pond. the ground leval fosets don't have enouph water preshur to use a phython cause we have well water. every time i end up gaging and spiting for a couple of hours.

I can never get my Phython to work by itself. I always have to suck on it. But I make sure it is not near the bottom of the tank and I watch for the water coming in the hose before it gets to my mouth. But the first time I had it in the gravel and the water traveld faster than I thought it would. That's the only time I got it right in the mouth. I did not puke but was spiting and washing my mouth out for 5 minutes. Kinda reminds me when I would use a hose to put gas from one of my cars to another, now who has not done that before??? LOL
 
I was having trouble priming one of the Fluval 404's on my turtle tank so I decided that I would help things out by sucking on the discharge hose. Bad idea. Have you seen the "mung" that builds up on the inside of those ribbed hoses? Bleeeaaahhhkkk
 
I usually just keep an eye on the water in my hose. When it gets close I drop it in the bucket.
