it's amusing to me that if a bunch of white people say something is not racist....then then offended must all be wrong. in the process they go out of their way to put down the offended, no matter how subtle or gentle they try to be about it. just an observation. you can't put yourself in other's shoes, so stop trying

The racist topic just gets on my nerves. I am white. I dont hate black people. I deal with them all day long and I even have a lot of respect for many of them compared to other white people I know. Not all some a majority for black people share qualities that get on my nerves. Why cant it just be that certain stereotypical habits of people of a certain race gets on my nerves.

Is it racist if a black person were to say that certain qualities that are stereotypical of white or hispanic people annoy them? Why cant it be that those qualities just annoying a person.

Do you have to hate something to be racist? or anti g a y? I feel its wrong and is not natural but I dont hate g a y s. I also find common habits of certain types of people (race) to be annoying. Does that make me a racist?

Hard to answer, but I think racism and hate go hand-in-hand. What is racism then? Isn't it prejudice or discrimination towards another race based on a belief of superiority? That seems quite hateful to me.

Per Merriam-Webster:

Definition of RACISM
1: a belief that race is the primary determinant of human traits and capacities and that racial differences produce an inherent superiority of a particular race
2: racial prejudice or discrimination

I would think that racism would be a blind hate for another race. Regardless of personality or the actual person, you only look at their race. Black, indian, hispanic, white, asian.

ok, so then with part 2 of the above definition anyone who finds a stereotype annoying or is bothered by it is racist?

In my view, stereotypes are not the same as racism. Only you yourself will know the true answer. And I'm pretty sure you know the difference between genuine hate and poking fun at a stereotype. I love stereotypes. I think they're hilarious and they exist because they're true. I'm as stereotypical as they get. But I don't see it as racism. I don't have hate towards any one race in particular, or view myself as being superior to another race. I'm a minority after all, so that would be silly.

I guess that depends on your actions. Cause and effect. If that stereotype or mindset influences your decision to do something, then yes, it's racial prejudice/discrimination (i.e., refuse to hire for a job, etc).

Sounds good to me. What bothers me is when certain people say it is racist lets say if I choose to hang out with certain people and not others. Or if because of my race my opinions differ in certain topics, some would call that racist. I just hate how the word is thrown around. And how easy it is for some people to use the word to gain something over others due to being a victim of supposed racism when it is purely a difference in people all together.
