Goonch advice needed ASAP.....

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I agree with Liam that this is a sp. indochina. It's too heavily freckled to be rutilus and, it may just be from stress, but it's a lot darker than the ruti's I've kept. How big is it?
Here's what mine looked like for reference. View attachment 1054200

Sold as a 12"er.

So these guys are just fine in warm water???

So is Indochina = Lica?

Yep! I have my suchus with my bichirs and the temps at 84 and he's happy as could be. They're found in the exact same waters as ruti's and sp. indochina. Just make sure to provide an area of high flow on the bottom as well as an area of low

Also, you've probably already checked it out since I know you're on top of research, but if you haven't, Rob's thread is the best you can ever read on their care.

Yep, gave it a few reads over the last few days. Always been a fan of Robs work.... :)

It's currently in a 180 with (2) AC 110 HOBs and a 3.6K GPH return pump. Plenty of current in there, and refuge behind a big ol piece of driftwood.

Have seen it occasionally out and about this evening.

Hopefully the big ol Franky Dorado doesn't mind him.....

Id be careful with that dorado. Goonches can easily get picked on since they just sit there majority of the time. Give it time though and you'll see it more often when it finds where the current is. Normally they'll park themselves right in front of it

I've suffered the contrary with my goonches lol. My 13" Yarelli ended up killing two of my hopliases including a big 12.5" microlepis. I also caught my big Lica with a 18" polypterus in its mouth and he occasionally beats up my Wallago

Haha that's crazy Liam! The only person I heard that with was djaalix and his HLG's went crazy and attacked and ate soooo many tankmates!! Mostly though I've heard of them getting picked on since they're pretty vulnerable. The only aggression I've had though were goonch picking on goonch

I agree with the others that it is likely a sp. Indochina. Sorry I didn't get back to you sooner, yesterday was VERY busy for me!
