Goonch advice needed ASAP.....

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
What an awesome gift! Congrats .... i know its too late, but i would have suggested exactly what you did, increase temp as gradually as possible, although my experience is with the cooler water HLG's ... but if yours is anything similar to mine, you shouldnt have anything to worry about as far as Dorado/Goonch interaction ... until of course the goonch gets bigger and bigger and bigger ... mine are back in the big tank, and if a fish just swims by them in a certain way it triggers a snap, its like a reflex ... no way they could eat my 20 inch Army, yet i've seen them snap out of instinct ... best of luck with your newest monster!

Thanks man! I definitely can't think of a better gift... lol

20 inch Armatus? Sounds like you need to get in gear with some updates! How big are your HLGs these days?

About 30 inches i'd say ... i'll update soon, they've been up in the 220 basically being starved for almost the last year to inhibit growth, but after my VATF decided to destroy all my Goliaths (so i feel your pain there as well) i moved them back down, and made the 220 the home of my pregnant female hystrix .... Goonches are currently unable to eat anyone downstairs (i hope) but i dont know how long that will last with how insanely aggresive eaters they are down there ... they've already burned out 2 Koralia magnum 8's by kicking up so much sand while feeding, its insane!

How mean are these things? The big Frankie I had in the 180 jumped out last night. Never had an issue with him jumping ever. Add Goonch and a few days later boon out and crispy. Can't help but want to blame the Goonch here.....

The thing going to pizz off the rays too? :(

Djaalix had his with rays and they never bothered them. He took them out for fear the pups would get eaten though, iirc.

They never bothered his Rays but they attacked a lot of his fish. His are HLG's though which are the most aggressive and he keeps them in tropical conditions which makes them even more aggressive. The only aggressions I had was when my HLG chased my aba aba knife and my suchus attacked my HLG. I've never had aggression issues with ruti's though or sp indichina

Ya he brought in the HLG's which are the largest most aggressive of them all. I don't know the temperament of your red river though. You're gonna have to keep us constantly updated on that bad boy
