Got 150 gallon yesterday Help me stock it

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I would be careful with feeders cuz they are often diseased and could introduce something into your entire tank. Btw sometimes I just wish lfs had loner fish to cycle a tank with!

This is a link to the video of what I have so far in the 150. Just got it going. I moved my oscars to the tank. They already ate all of the feeders. They also harrassad the bichir a little so I will take them out by the time my fire eel shows up. Let me know what you think..

Looks great so far! really nice! just watch out for any sharpe points with the rocks in the tank, and didn't notice but do the rocks start at the tanks base or are they just atop the gravel? If they aren't set solidly a fire eel can and will "redecorate" for you and possible hurt itself or other fish in the rocks. Such aggression from the oscars really doesn't surprize me africans are quarrlsome fish and the oscars where probably ruling it for a long time and are us to top dog status. I'm impressed your africans didn't rip them up tbh. There where likely many fights you missed. and the fact they are already territorial suggests they might be a pair.. and would only get worse. and deffinately wouldn't house them w/ BGK or eel. And you can never cycle a tank to slow ime.

All very good advice, I'll put them back in the cichlid tank evenutally. You would think that they would have fights with the cichlids but I swear that they don't. I watch them for hours. I have a Venustas that causes more conflict than the oscars do.

If they where all in there as juvies, they've pecked out their spot long ago and everyone has their "place" So even though in an aggresive tank they might seem "docile" introduceing them to truely docile fish might trigger more aggression then if they had ben raised with more docile fish. I tried this once, and don't reccomend it but stocked a 55 w/ a fry pair of neolampus lelupi ( small african species) In a planted tank with guppies, neons, and other assorted small docile fish. And they all "grew up" together. I kept them just fine until the fry decided to be a pair and got territorial. But even then I lost only a few of my fish as they soon learned where they where allowed and not allowed. which btw the 2 PH/KH where all wrong for the africans, and if i did it again which i liekly won't I'de got w/ rams or a more appropriate softer water aggresive but attractive fish. tossing a bunch of adults of most any fish species that share the same water level in a tank is asking for trouble in my experaince. Unless you have a species that holds no territory period. Most species have a lose territory at least, and as adults are far more interested in holding it. Babies can be smaller, but they will grow. and a tank that grows together has a better chance of cohabitating in the long run then one where fish of different ages/maturity levels are introduced. There are always exceptions. Any squabaling will be done as juviniles and generally alot less violant then if adults where fighting. Like brothers and sisters, they figure out who is top dog before they can do to much damage to eachother. :D Only we don't "pair" up with our brothers or sisters, at least not around here.:grinno:
